WHAT DOES YOUR ‘AT HOME STYLE’ LOOK LIKE MOST DAYS?

I’m mostly in lounge wear but I do occasional dress ups just for the fun of it!

HOW DO YOU STYLE YOUR JEWELLERY AT THE MOMENT?

I always love wearing my dainty necklace and simple earrings even if I’m wearing tracksuits.

IF YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE YOU’VE MADE AN EFFORT, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO JEWELLERY PIECES?

A touch of pearls and gold jewelry are my favourites... in making me feel expensive. 🤣

WHAT’S THE BEST AND HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING AT HOME?

Best, being able to connect deeper with myself and my family. Worst, not being able to have the freedom to go about my day.

DO YOU HAVE A DAILY ROUTINE OR NOT? DOES BEING A MOTHER KEEP YOU IN ROUTINE?

Being a mom transforms you into a routine freak. 🤣 Otherwise you would lose your mind.

HOW ARE YOU KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY?

I FaceTime with my friends and family, it’s better than calls or messages as I get to share what I’m doing and see what they are doing.

IS THERE ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY THAT MEANS A LOT TO YOU, AND A REASON WHY?

I have a personalized necklace with my family initials which I wear often as it makes me feel like I have them close to my heart all the time.

IS THERE ANYTHING NEW YOU HAVE TRIED SINCE BEING AT HOME, FOR EXAMPLE COOKING NEW RECIPES OR LEARNING A NEW SKILL?

I have actually been baking a lot and enjoying it...first tries were terrible but I have become a pro now. 🙂

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE FINDING STAYING AT HOME HARD, IS THERE ONE TIP YOU CAN LEAVE US WITH WHICH HAS HELPED YOU?

I have decided to focus on mastering a few skills from cooking new recipes, to yoga at home, to new books and that has helped me a lot. This is of course outside looking after my family which takes most of day but I always try to involve them as well. Be positive and try to fill up your days with as much as possible.

AT HOME WITH AMBAR

As we continue with our At Home blog series, we caught up with Ambar Miraaj Driscoll @ambardriscoll on life at home in London and why communities like the one she has created are even more important in times like these.

WHERE IS YOUR CURRENT HOME?

In South London. I’m isolating with my boyfriend, his best friend, and his best friend’s girlfriend, which is really nice.

WHAT DOES YOUR ‘AT HOME STYLE’ LOOK LIKE MOST DAYS?

I’ve seen so many memes of people saying things like ‘people wearing jeans at home during isolation are psychopaths’ but I put jeans on every morning! I feel so much more productive and ready to work if I’m not in loungewear. So actually, my home style is minimal loungewear! (except in the evenings of course), I’m wearing simple basics.

HOW DO YOU WEAR YOUR JEWELLERY AT THIS TIME?

I like putting on earrings every morning - just some small gold hoops. The same way jeans make me feel more put together, wearing earrings, some makeup and perfume makes me feel more like pre-isolation Ambar.

IF YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE YOU’VE MADE AN EFFORT, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO JEWELLERY PIECES?

Hmmm. I actually have some RUIFIER earrings that I love - they’re gold hoops with this little hoop of pearls in the middle, they’re very noticeable so I wear them when I’m making an effort.

COULD YOU TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT THE PLATFORM THAT YOU CREATED, BAMBY COLLECTIVE, AND WHY YOU STARTED IT?

Sure! I started Bamby Collective just before the end of 2019. I was becoming increasingly aware of the fact that even though we all spend so much time on our phones, no one has really taught us how to use social media in a positive way - social media tends to have negative effects on our mental health. I wanted to create a safe online community that serves as a place for girls to make friends, learn about various topics, and ultimately brings girls together who want to be part of a positive space. The Facebook group has almost 3000 members and the girls use it to ask for advice without judgement - it's grown into such a wonderful supportive group of girls who have never met, yet just want the best for each other and want to support each other. I'm planning to do events so that everyone can meet in real life after this is all over, but having set up Bamby Collective before coronavirus was perfect timing in a way, and we've seen so many new girls join because they want a space to talk to other people and feel less lonely during this time. There's a big group chat that lots of the girls are on and it's so lovely seeing how they've formed friendships through the community - we do Netflix party's together, and zoom calls. The regular stuff you'd do with your friends, but instead with our online community. I think feeling like you belong to a group is a wonderful feeling - and it's open to girls of all ages around the world.

WHAT’S THE BEST AND HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING AT HOME?

I think I’ve really adjusted to this style of life now - smaller things make me happy, so I’d say the best thing is probably that I’ve learned to appreciate the simple things in life more. The worst thing is definitely not being able to see my friends and family, FaceTiming them often just makes me miss them more.

DO YOU HAVE A DAILY ROUTINE OR HAS ALL ROUTINE GONE OUT THE WINDOW?

I have some semblance of a routine - I usually wake up around 9, have a shower and get ready, then make everyone breakfast. We pretty much always have breakfast together and have some variation of bacon and eggs. Then I sit and work in the living room for a few hours, then around noon I migrate into the bedroom and work there (or pretend to).

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU HAVE WANTED TO DO FOR A LONG TIME, WHICH YOU NOW HAVE TIME TO DO?

Oh god - I cleaned out my wardrobe the other day and I hated every minute of it. I’d been putting that off for weeks, I got rid of so many clothes that I’ve been hanging onto. I feel so much better now it’s done.

IS THERE SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING WHEN LIFE STARTS TO RETURN TO NORMAL?

Honestly, there’s nothing in particular that I’m looking forward to - in a way I think I’ll miss the simplicity of this way of life. I can’t wait to sit on a beach. I’m slightly worried that I’ll have forgotten how to have social interactions with people!

HOW ARE YOU KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY?

I am not good at using my phone to stay in touch with my friends and family - I’ve always been the type to never really text people except to plan to meet up, so this has been hard! Sometimes I find calls so awkward. But I’m getting better.

IS THERE ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY THAT MEANS A LOT TO YOU, AND A REASON WHY?

I have a silver diamond waterfall ring that I wear on my right ring finger and never take off. My boyfriend gave it to me for our first Christmas together. It was 6 months after we started dating, and we were skiing with his family - it was such a special time, and the ring fills me with happy memories.

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE FINDING STAYING AT HOME HARD, IS THERE ONE TIP YOU CAN GIVE WHICH HAS HELPED YOU?

I think being grateful is really important - if I’m feeling low I like to just say in my mind a few things I’m grateful for and why. It really does change my mood and outlook.

In these unusual times, we are working to stay upbeat, positive and optimistic for the future. With our series of 'At Home With..' blogs we will be talking to some of our favourite women about how they are taking on life at home.

Currently working on her home renovation, we took a moment to catch up with the beautiful Jessica Harris @jessicasharris_ about everything jewellery and home related.

WHERE IS YOUR CURRENT HOME?
In the Suffolk countryside.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WHERE YOU LIVE?
Nature, wide open spaces, fresh air and my family.

WHAT DOES YOUR ‘AT HOME STYLE’ LOOK LIKE MOST DAYS?
I’m a massive comfort person so pay a lot of attention to the cut and fabric of my clothes. I’m all about keeping it simple and chic so you’ll find me in cashmere trousers, leggings or cigarette trousers teamed with a tank, oversized tee or white shirt teamed with loafers, mules or my Umu Australia slippers!

HAS THE ROLE OF YOUR JEWELLERY CHANGED RECENTLY?
Definitely. I find that I’m favouring small, dainty and, again, comfortable jewellery pieces rather than chunky, statement accessories.

IF YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE YOU’VE MADE AN EFFORT, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO PIECES?
I’ll definitely opt for a hoop earring or a bigger stud. As I have small features, any earrings instantly make me look more put-together.

WHAT’S THE BEST AND HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING AT HOME?
Not being able to travel. I go away a lot for work (and pleasure) and love to see the world. But it has made me realise that I want to cut back as much as I can because if there is one silver lining from all of this, it’s the positive effect it’s having on the environment.

DO YOU HAVE A DAILY ROUTINE OR HAS ALL ROUTINE GONE OUT THE WINDOW?
I’ve worked from home for the last 3 years so my daily routine is pretty set. What I have changed though is being a bit more relaxed with it depending on how I’m feeling that day.

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU HAVE WANTED TO DO FOR A LONG TIME, WHICH YOU NOW HAVE TIME TO DO?
I’m in awe of everyone baking and reading during this time because I haven’t found the time to do that yet but I have been gardening and cracking on with our house renovations.

HOW ARE YOU KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
We’ve been talking, texting and doing video calls daily and weekly.

IF YOU COULD WEAR ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY FOREVER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
My wedding ring for sentimental reasons and diamond earrings my husband bought me.

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE FINDING STAYING AT HOME HARD, CAN YOU LEAVE US WITH ONE TIP WHICH HAS HELPED YOU?
I think just be really gentle with yourself and very careful what you’re consuming. Social media can be comforting if we’re feeling lonely but it can also be very detrimental to how we’re feeling and you end up comparing your productivity/house/garden/exercise regime to everyone else. There’s no rule book to this, take every day as it comes and do things that make you feel good - even if that’s doing nothing.

We speak to the beautiful Tabitha Willett @tabitha.willett on what lockdown is like as a mother and why she is more grateful now than ever before.

WHERE IS YOUR CURRENT HOME?

I am isolating in my flat in London. We toyed with the idea of going to the country to my family home as it was vacant but it just makes more sense for us to be here for work and essentials for the baby.

WHO ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR AT THIS MOMENT?

My daughter. She is keeping us playful and upbeat when all we feel like doing is moping around. Her little giggle is the best noise in the world.

WHAT’S IT LIKE HAVING BEAUTIFUL OTTILIE WITH YOU AT HOME?

I keep reminding myself how lucky I am to have this time with her and watch her grow up. It's something I don't think I will get with any other children in the future so I am trying to be so grateful for this. Saying this there are some trying moments! I don't think my house has ever been so messy!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAILY ROUTINE. DOES BEING A MOTHER KEEP YOU IN ROUTINE?

We have only introduced Ottilie to a routine in the last few weeks and it has been essential. We wake up at 7am, have a cuddle and play and bottle in bed and then usually she falls back to sleep with me until about 8:30am/9am. I sneak off while she is sleeping so I can unload the dishwasher while she is asleep (any parent knows how hard this is with a toddler!). We then get dressed up - I try to put on 'real clothes' most days as well as a little bit of makeup as it just makes me feel better - and we take the dog downstairs. Then it's time for my emails, which means TV time for Ottilie. Then lunch time at 12 followed by a nap for a couple of hours. This is when I try to take any Instagram content that is due and catch up with wedding planning. The afternoons we try to spend outside if the weather permits. Then dinner, bath, bottle, book, bed takes up most of my evening and I am pooped by 8pm and have a bath and get into bed! It's quite monotonous but at least I am busy. I hate being bored!

WHAT DOES YOUR ‘AT HOME STYLE’ LOOK LIKE MOST DAYS?

I mentioned previously that I try to wear real clothes every day. I did a huge lounge wear haul at the beginning of quarantine but the novelty of sweatpants wore off quite quickly! As the weather is getting nicer and I was heavily pregnant last Summer, I am loving wearing some lovely Summery dresses! I try to coordinate with Ottilie too - it's so much fun dressing up a little girl.

HAS THE WAY YOU WEAR YOUR JEWELLERY CHANGED RECENTLY?

Not really actually, I change my jewellery almost daily and it's a huge love of mine! I suppose I am wearing less statement pieces like big dangly earrings.

IF YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE YOU’VE MADE AN EFFORT, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO JEWELLERY PIECES?

Funnily enough, dangly earrings! I really feel like they elevate any outfit. When I used to go out in the evenings (what feels like a lifetime ago!) I would even wear my silk pyjamas out to dinner with enormous statement earrings and heels and an embellished clutch!

WHAT’S THE BEST AND HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING AT HOME?

Best thing is taking the time to slow down and show your home the love it deserves. The hardest thing is keeping on top of everything! I read a quote that said "keeping your home tidy with a toddler is like brushing your teeth at the same time as eating a Hobnob" and nothing has ever resonated with me more!

WHAT WILL YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?

I don't think I will ever moan about any help ever again. I want to send my nanny and cleaner the biggest bunch of roses for everything that they have done for us in the past! So, gratitude for sure. Also reminding myself that I CAN do it! I AM enough!

CAN YOU NAME ONE THING THAT YOU APPRECIATE MORE NOW THAN YOU USED TO?

My time. The 1-2 hour time that I have in the day to myself is so precious to me.

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU HAVE WANTED TO DO FOR A LONG TIME, WHICH YOU NOW HAVE TIME TO DO?

Ironically, I have so much less time now that I ever did before! I have an incredible book called 'The Human Being Diet' which I am dying to read. I have also been gifted an amazing calligraphy set that is still in its box! I really want to watch The Normal People on BBC iPlayer and Hollywood on Netflix and I would love to be able to join my personal trainers Zoom classes at 6:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but sadly don't have the time! I have been cooking a little more than normal as my daughter can help with that and we aren't able to eat out though so that's nice!

WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST OPTIMISTIC ABOUT FOR THE FUTURE?

My wedding. It's supposed to be on July 24th and we have all of our fingers and toes crossed. We are really just waiting on the government to release a statement and then we will see.

IF YOU COULD WEAR ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY FOREVER WHAT WOULD IT BE?

My engagement ring. It's a heavenly 3.2 ct pear shape on a diamond band and I am so obsessed. I clean it every day.

IS THERE ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY THAT MEANS A LOT TO YOU, AND A REASON WHY?

I have a brooch that belonged to my Granny Dorothy that I wear more than I thought I would when she gave it to me. It's a fine gold bar with a ring of pearls and a ruby in the middle. It's so beautiful just like Granny Dot was.

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE FINDING STAYING AT HOME HARD, CAN YOU LEAVE US WITH THE BEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT FROM THIS TIME?

Try to have something on the horizon to look forward to. Lunch at your favourite restaurant, hugging your mummy, flying abroad. Whatever it might be, remember that this time is temporary and everything will still be there when you get out.

With our next interview in this series, we chat to Amy Neville @amynevfashiondiaries about what staying at home looks like for a model used to travelling the world.

WHERE IS YOUR CURRENT HOME?

My current home is just outside London, I have the best of both worlds because I have space and country life but only 30 mins into central London.

WHO ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR AT THIS MOMENT?

I would probably say my partner Will, we have been together non-stop for almost 2 months now and this is not the usual norm for us as I am so used to travelling regularly for shoots. We have the company of each other during this period which has been nice, both working from home.

WHAT DOES YOUR ‘AT HOME STYLE’ LOOK LIKE MOST DAYS?

Most days I am in loungewear however I have been lucky enough to carry on doing shoots from home the past few weeks for brands, they are sending me products regularly and my photographer comes to shoot in fields and on my roof terrace and my home studio. Still social distancing of course.

HOW DO YOU WEAR YOUR JEWELLERY AT THIS TIME?

I still get ready daily, my jewellery and watch are the first things to go on, part of my getting ready routine. You will very rarely find me without any jewellery on.

IF YOU WANT TO LOOK LIKE YOU’VE MADE AN EFFORT, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO JEWELLERY PIECES?

I religiously wear my watches, I have a lovely collection of Rolex and Audermars Piguet watches. I am a bit of a boy in that sense, I love collecting them and I have lots of vintage jewellery too as well as my fave RUIFIER earrings.

DO YOU HAVE A DAILY ROUTINE OR HAS ALL ROUTINE GONE OUT THE WINDOW?

I still get up at the same time every day as I have been having zoom meetings, phone calls, shoots from home and replying to emails so I am still super busy to be honest. It's just a different way of working.

WHAT WILL YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THIS TIME?

It has definitely made me reflect on things and what is important in life. Before all of this I felt like I was living in the rat race and always chasing my tail to get things done and travelling so often. It has been nice to slow down and take time to breathe!

AS A MODEL YOU MUST TRAVEL A LOT, DO YOU MISS IT OR ARE YOU ENJOYING THIS TIME IN ONE PLACE?

I have travelled since I was 16, so over 13 years now. So it has actually been nice to have a break to be at home especially as I have been able to use this time to get the house finished. I was lucky enough to be shooting a campaign in the Maldives before the lockdown happened as well as skiing with a brand.

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU HAVE WANTED TO DO FOR A LONG TIME, WHICH YOU NOW HAVE TIME TO DO?

I have wanted to work on a brand for so long so I have been spending time working on ideas as well as finishing my house @amynevhousediaries, I have been non-stop ordering to get all the furniture sorted for the house so that has kept me busy.

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE FINDING STAYING AT HOME HARD CAN YOU LEAVE US WITH THE BEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT FROM THIS TIME?

I think for anyone hating this time at home remember it’s to keep us all safe and it's probably the only time in your lifetime you will have this time to take a breath and reflect on life and spend quality time with family if your isolating with close family.

AT HOME WITH SOLAN

Join our conversation with Solan @solanpitsch as she gives us an insight into how she stays productive and creative admidst the lockdown in Germany.

WHERE IS YOUR CURRENT HOME?

Right now, I live in Frankfurt on the Main. It is a lovely city known for being the finance and business hub in Germany. With its mix of skyscrapers and historical buildings like the Old Opera, it reminds me of my two favourite cities in the world: New York and Paris. Definitely worth a visit, as this city offers so much more!

WHO ARE YOU MOST GRATEFUL FOR AT THIS MOMENT?

I am most grateful for my family, boyfriend, and friends. Even in those hard times of Covid19 we support each other and stay in contact via Zoom or FaceTime. It makes me realize how precious they are and how lucky I am to have them in my life. I think we should all practise gratitude more often – not only during quarantine but every single day.

WHAT DOES YOUR ‘AT HOME STYLE’ LOOK LIKE MOST DAYS?

I try to balance it out by wearing comfy outfits on the one day and regular, more dressed up outfits on the other day. The same goes for wearing make-up; it depends on how I am feeling that day. But I usually go for a full outfit with jewellery plus make-up during the week as it helps me to be more productive with work. And on the weekends, I would most probably wear sports leggings with a jumper.

HOW DO YOU WEAR YOUR JEWELLERY AT THIS TIME?

At the moment, I love wearing gold jewellery only. I have my everyday jewellery that I wear all the time! I always wear a ring, two necklaces, and a pair of earrings. If I go for a full outfit, I usually add some more pieces like a chunky necklace for a layered look and my favourite golden rings. Adding jewellery to my outfits always completes the look and makes it more stylish and special.

WHAT’S THE BEST AND HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING AT HOME?

The best thing for me is definitely to have more time for myself. Not only for self-care but also for being in the present moment, being conscious of what I am doing and eating, and visualizing my future and goals. I am a very creative person; I always need new projects and create new ideas in my head, which is why I don’t find it hard to stay at home most of the time. I can recommend starting a creative project and setting goals – it could be trying out a new recipe, practising yoga or pilates, drawing and painting, learning a new language or playing an instrument. It is a gift that we should accept; there is no better time than now. The hardest thing is to not have quality time with friends and family, but I try to make the best out of it. Everything does have an end, even corona.

WHAT ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY BEST REFLECTS YOUR PERSONALITY OR STYLE AND WHY?

A dainty necklace. There is nothing more elegant and feminine than a simple high-quality necklace around the neck. I adore wearing a lot of jewellery, but if I had to choose, I would say a beautiful gold necklace with a small detail. A pretty stone or pearl makes it look very chic and effortless. That is how I would describe my style – something that is timeless and that I could pass on to my children in the future.

IS THERE SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING WHEN LIFE STARTS TO RETURN TO NORMAL?

I am very much looking forward to spending quality time with family and friends: catching up, hugging each other, enjoying food together, and planning some future trips. I also cannot wait to spend days and evenings in the city and have date nights as my boyfriend and I used to have. As I am also finishing university, I am hoping to start a new job or a master’s degree this year. Very much looking forward to what the future holds.

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE FINDING STAYING AT HOME HARD, IS THERE ONE TIP YOU CAN GIVE WHICH HAS HELPED YOU STAY POSITIVE?

Talking to someone on the phone or in person, if possible, has definitely helped me. If you find yourself helpless, I can recommend you to meditate, to do yoga, or to journal by writing down your thoughts and feelings. I also like scrolling through Instagram, Pinterest, or YouTube to distract myself and to receive inspiration. But having a project or goal can also help you stay motivated and positive!

IF YOU COULD WEAR ONE PIECE OF JEWELLERY FOREVER WHAT WOULD IT BE?

If I hear the word ‘forever’, I think of a ring. I have been wearing one specific ring since my 14^th birthday and never took it off ever since. A simple ring always looks beautiful on the hands.

IS THERE ANYTHING NEW YOU HAVE TRIED SINCE BEING AT HOME?

As I said, I love being creative, and I think everyone should start a project while staying at home. I have tried some new recipes, specifically plant-based only recipes, and also plan this as an activity to do with my boyfriend. I am also challenging myself to get the full split and want to get more into art again by painting my own unique pictures for our apartment.

CAN YOU LEAVE US WITH THE BEST LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT FROM THIS TIME?
